It's extremely shameful that Trump keeps doing Pearl Harbors - pretending to engage in diplomacy, and launching attacks in the middle. UnAmerican

This latest sick, dishonest horror simply shows openly the cynical deep evil of the American

Capitalist Tyranny acting for the War Machine that owns government. There is no justification for it in any calculus. It is a raw act of imperial aggression promoted by the Zionist Jews that have captured American polity and disenfranchised our stupid, propagandized people.

This is the exact task for which Trump received the support of AIPAC.

The usual formula for "regime change" involves the following sequence: Limited use of military force to create chaos/destabilization. Chaos provides cover for bribery of elites or power figures, and some form of behind the scenes coup d'etat. The variation Israel likes puts assassinations front and center, but this is still a form of destabilization. Ultimately, someone compliant has to take over. A strategy of provocation and/or demonstrating impunity, by targeting of women and children, is also characteristic. Both Obama and Trump gradually embraced the assassination - and the targeting of women and children at scale has been a go-to for the US since the obsession with "strategic bombing" demonstrated ever since the 1950s.

But both destabilization and strategic bombing have a miserable record. What works is bribery and coup d'etat. These in turn work when there is a misalignment between the elites/power-figures... the so called "principal-agent problem", where power figures tend to be more interested in (1) their power within the system they inhabit and (2) converting that power into wealth. That's the real secret sauce to an imperialist program. Monarchies in the age of capitalism are the quintessential example, but you see this tendency even in countries with democratic structures that are sound on paper. This includes the US itself and Israel too. Any realist analysis of national interest is confounded quite a bit by this very common misalignment - both in the victims of imperialist policy, and the power centers themselves.

With that in mind: For Netanyahu and his group, and therefore also for Trump, Iran is the most pressing roadblock to more power, and so they're trying what they can while they have the means. Most of the costs of this war are totally discounted: costs for Europe, for the Gulfies, for US power position in relation to China, for US wealth as a whole, and (despite the mad rantings of the Israeli right), even for Israel's own long term future and near term prosperity.

The way these things are accounted for in the minds of the decision makers - captured by Netanyahu and Trump's group - are totally different. With more war, Netanyahu actually gets more secure in his position within the world he inhabits. His business pals will probably lose money though if Iran continues to hits Israel, especially if the anti-ballistic / anti-drone munitions run out. That's probably the sole lever acting on the Israeli side. The Gulfies are hostage to the situation, being by far the most vulnerable - they're not in a position to join the fighting. Europeans are already neutered. US is essentially impervious to events, not being dependent on energy imports apart from specialties (eg heavy crude), which anyway the money printing can paper over for now. Don't be fooled about any US casualties, they count for little and will be denied until after the election. The one pain point for Trump is going to be that the Democrats might nevertheless use any resulting global economic shock to take him out in the fall. Without Congress, he's easily impeached for financial improprieties, ie without the Democrats getting into the abuse, rape, and possibly murder of young girls - which their own people seem to have also taken part in. After the election Dems will continue to support Israel just as Biden did through the first years of the Gaza genocide, but that too is irrelevant in Trump's calculus.

So the conditions to stop actually exist now, as both the main instigators face consequences: Netanyahu's group facing financial loss, and Trump facing political power loss (jail unfortunately not likely due to pardon). But US/Israeli practice of killing their negotiating partners burned the bridges very thoroughly now. Iran is basically in a position where they need to make this hurt as much as possible for both of the main instigators, before everyone runs low of ammunition, and the fighting reduces intensity to the rate of its production. Lots of wild cards in neighboring country activity (majority of Gulfie leaders hated as sellouts), how much China, Russia, etc do to help Iran. The Trump admin (+ Netanyahu) has left the US absolutely no moral or diplomatic cover whatsoever. It is plain to the world they are criminals of the worst kind.

Insightful summary. Economic sanctions also play a significant role in the 'regime change' formula.

So this is what the US meant by freeing Iranians. The last time I checked, killing school children wasn't liberating. It's called cold-bloodied calculated murder. Can you imagine if the situation were reversed and Iran bombed a US or Israeli school? The reaction from the government and media would be entirely different. My heart goes out to the families of those precious children. No child should have their lives cut short because of warmongering narcissists. May they rest in peace.

Why is there no reference to the fact that Israel has thrust America into all our Middle Eastern wars, not just Iraq and Iran, or did I miss something? Netanyahu identified all those Middle Eastern countries we targeted as terrorist states and a threat to Israel. Iran has been on their hit list for decades and now Trump has no doubt kept a promise he made when he came into office. He also got 100 million from Adelson and she got a necklace strung around her neck in broad day light, so to speak, and no doubt symbolic that he would keep his promise and then some. Not enough emphasis on the degree of control Israel has over us or, the degree of destruction we have implemented on her behalf. It also seems quite obvious his back and forth position on Iran was little more then a game and the message sent was Iran gave us no other choice.
