A permanent ceasefire, a chance for ordinary people to live in peace if given half a chance, apartheid to end and recognition on both sides that revenge, at some point, is pointless and has to stop.

Catherine the Great conquered the Donbas in 1764. As a matter of policy, the Russian Empire encouraged Russians to settle the area, and the Empire annexed it in 1775. Ethnic Russians have thus been living in the Donbas for 250 years.
The Donbas was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1923 at the end of the Russian Civil War. Since then, ethnically, religiously, linguistically, and culturally Russians living in the Donbas have been "aligned" with Ukraine, or at least they were until Kiev killing them for 8 years for being ethnically Russian made them decide to be annexed by Russia.
